The project from Ecuador focuses on the protection of the indigenous Kichwa, who have carried ancient knowledge of nature and its inhabitants for thousands of years.

Large gold companies want to buy the Kichwa indigenous territory to mine for gold there. The process of separating gold from sand and gravel heavily contaminates the land and soil. The mercury used is highly toxic.

The lungs of our Earth, the Amazon rainforest, continue to be destroyed. The habitat of the locals and that of plants and countless animals is facing its end. The rainforest is a place of biodiversity and plays a crucial role in regulating the world's climate, making it one of the world's most important ecosystems.

The mission of this project is to help the tribal elder of the Kichwa acquire the lands around the Rio Blanco from farmers to prevent mercury contamination. The gold companies are already negotiating with the farmers.

The idea behind this approach is simple yet effective. By fairly compensating farmers for their fields, they receive an alternative source of income that resists the short-term temptations of gold mining. This not only creates an economic foundation for the local population but also protects the natural resources and habitats essential for the survival of the Kichwa and numerous animal and plant species.

Protecting the Amazon rainforest and its indigenous peoples is a commitment that affects us all. The project to protect the Kichwa indigenous people is a hopeful example of how we can act together to preserve this precious heritage for future generations. It reminds us that we have a choice to protect the "lungs of the Earth" and to respect the rights and cultures of indigenous communities while doing so.
